Dutch Dance 1988 - 2018. September 1988. It has been some time since the new house music from Chicago, Detroit and New York found its way to Dutch shores. And yet, to the frustration of a select group of DJs that have been importing the revolutionary sound, public and media response has been dismissive. But then, with the help of a contingent of British DJs and partygoers, and with solid preparatory work by Belgian pioneers, the Dutch dance music scene explodes. An Autumn of Love is born.

Thirty years later, the Netherlands are at the vanguard of this world-wide cultural phenomenon: DJs like Tiësto, Martin Garrix, Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Joris Voorn and many others head line-ups and popularity polls. Festivals and party concepts that have been developed in the Netherlands are rolled out all over the world with resounding success. The dance music world converges on our capital city to party or network during the Amsterdam Dance Event. What’s more, the world’s biggest dance music label Spinnin’ Records is from the Netherlands.

Dutch Dance: How The Netherlands took the lead in Electronic Music Culture chronologically documents all the steps in this expansion, providing a wealth of information, interviews and pictures. It explains how a mix of circumstances provided the fertile ground for electronic dance music to flourish. The book documents all the major players, venues, cities and styles involved in this incredible cultural history, and is published exactly 30 years after the revolutionary breakthrough of house music in the Netherlands.

De Dance scene kijkt eigenlijk nooit terug, nieuw feest, nieuwe release, nieuwe ontwikkelingen want alles raast door. Zo was er in 2013 het idee van een boek over een land dat al jaren de dance scene heeft gevormd, wereldwijde succesen heeft geboekt met zowel dj's, clubs, muziek en de wereldwijde nederlandse dance festivals. Het leek de oprichter een goed idee om met het boek wel eens terug te kijken. "In vijfentwintig jaar dancegeschiedenis zitten enorm veel verhalen, dat had ik al snel door. Maar weet je wat het is met dance? Als je er niets mee hebt, snap je er ook niets van. Die bewustwording moet dus vanuit de mensen in de scene komen, die het wel begrijpen." Het boek Mary Go Wild werd lovend ontvangen en won de Pop Media Prijs. Daarna volgde snel het idee om de winkel te openen, op de Zeedijk.

"Het was een wild idee waar we met een gestrekt been in zijn gegaan. We wilden een plek creëren voor danceliefhebbers waar je elkaar ook overdag kunt ontmoeten. Door het boek kregen we namelijk echt emotionele reacties van mensen."

Mary Go Wild moet een grotere support krijgen, daarom wilde wij heel graag deze historische dancescene boeken verkopen. Dutch Dance hoort een grote plek te krijgen dan het nu heeft, iets waar wij trots op mogen zijn als klein landje! Wereldwijde succes en de inmiddels een inmense bedrijfstak die Dutch Dance is geworden zullen wij daar waar nodig blijven samenwerken met MARY GO WILD X BOOMBOXX.
